Baignade Interdite
Benjamin Moussay, June 2025
When the members of the Brūme trio asked me to accompany them to Studio la Buissonne to oversee the artistic direction of the recording of "Baignade interdite I was immediately struck by the cohesion of the project, the collective sound, and their mastery of musical language. I first met them as students a few years ago, and now I am rediscovering them as accomplished musicians firmly rooted in their time.
Brūme is a true trio: three composers, three unique and complementary voices working together to achieve a musical vision and group sound. Their world oscillates between stubborn loops, angular themes, lyrical flights of fancy, and distorted rock landscapes. And the trio's artistry lies in transporting us from one atmosphere to another with fluidity, elegantly manipulating the interplay of breaks and crossfades.
The relevant and profound sound of Oscar Bineau's saxophones, sometimes tinged with electronics, dialogues with Robin Nitram's guitar, whose microloops and skillfully chosen distortions create a modern and original backdrop. The ensemble is carried by Ewen Grall's melodic and powerful drumming. Alternating between short tracks and long progressive pieces, the three musicians weave their story with precision. A confident and compelling debut album that is a pleasure to listen to again and again before going to see them live.
